Otunba Rotimi Paseda, Gbenga Daniel, Omisore, five other heavyweight politicians that joined APC in 2021

APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, on receiving the nod from President Muhammadu Buhari to embark on a membership registration/revalidation exercise, recently threw open the door for new members to join the party.

National Chairman Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Governor Mai Mala Buni, explained that the registration and revalidation exercise is aimed at building new confidence among its members and reassuring them of new hope in the party.

He said the exercise would assist the party to generate a valid, accurate and up to date data on party membership to enhance and support its planning process.

1. Otunba Rotimi Paseda (Ogun State):

Two-time governorship candidate Otunba Rotimi Paseda has left SDP for APC. Paseda, who started his political career in UPN, was the governorship candidate of SDP in Ogun Statein 2019 gubernatorial poll won by Dapo Abiodun of APC.

Shortly after his registration that by his ward chairman Idowu Osunkoya in an event that took place at Ward 14 St Paul Polling Unit 3, in Itale, Omu-Ijebu, Odogbolu Local Government of the state, Otunba Paseda stated that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was in response to the yearnings of his followers home and abroad.

He also disclosed that he and his supporters would be officially received into the party by the leadership of the party in his local government in coming days.

Speaking after the defection, Paseda declared that, as an ardent follower of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he considered the APC the only party whose objectives align with the ideologies of Awolowo.

In his words: ‘I am committed to serving my country and my people, so I have to do what my people want me to do, they have been clamouring and urging me to join APC and quite a few of them have gone ahead of me to join APC and that is what they want me to do and as a leader I have to listen to their calls.

‘I am an Awoist and APC is the only leading party fashioned from Awolowo’s ideology, but there is no party you join that will give you the 100 percent of what you want.

‘I am crossing over now so that I can serve my people better. I am 100 percent committed to my country, my state and my people,’ he stated.

He declared unflinching support to the party both at the state and national levels, saying: ‘I am committed to wherever I am and I will work for the party around me.’

2. Sen. Iyiola Omisore:

Former Osun Deputy Governor, Sen. Iyiola Omisore, was the governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) during the 2018 gubernatorial election where he emerged third.

He later threw his weight behind the APC at the re-run of the governorship election after Gboyega Oyetola, the APC’s candidate squared off with Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Omisore was received by Osun Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi and APC chairman, Gboyega Famodun.

3. Gbenga Daniel:

Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP and officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was welcomed by five governors elected on the platform of the party.

Daniel, in a statement to his supporters, said the move is in the best interest of his people.

Daniel was chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council for the 2019 elections in which former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was the candidate.

4. Lt-General Azubuike Ihejirika(Rtd)

Former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd) on February 16, 2021, officially defected to the ruling party – All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ihejirika was COAS from 2010 to 2014 under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ihejirika, 65, announced his decision to join the APC at his Isuikwuato country home in Abia-North senatorial district.

Disclosing his reasons for joining the APC, Ihejirika said it was to contribute to the progress of the party at the state and national level.

5. Simeon Eze

Ex-Personal Assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Security and Protocols, Simeon Eze, also joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2021.

Eze, who is from Echara/Isiagu Ward in Igboeze-South Local Government Area of Enugu State, joined APC on Tuesday at the local government party secretariat, Ibagwa-Aka, where he registered.

Eze, who was PA to former President Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, said that this was his first time joining a political party.

6. Hon. Blessing Onuh

Hon. Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President David Mark and lawmaker representing Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency of Benue, has also joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Onuh said she was leaving APGA due to leadership crisis at all levels of the party.

7. Celestine Okoye, Retired DIG

Celestine Okoye, a retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, has also joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state.

The former DIG registered at his polling unit in Awka.

This development is coming ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 6 in the state.

Okoye said he is ready to contribute to the party’s success in the forthcoming election.

8. Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu (Cubana Chief Priest)

Popular celebrity barman Cubana Chief Priest has officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a video, which he posted on instagram, the Imo-born socialite could be seen signing some documents which makes his membership of the party official.

Paschal's political ambitions are, however, unclear at the moment.
