Young Christian Workers Movement of Nigeria, Lagos Archdiocese set to commemorate annual May Day

The Young Christian Workers Movement of Nigeria, Lagos Archdiocese, an International social justice movement with the mission to awaken the moral consciousness of young people and advocate for the rights of workers, is set to celebrate the 2021 edition of International Workers Day, on May 1st.

The yearly tradition, unfortunately, won't feature its key highlight, which is the action campaign peace trek; due to the restrictions placed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Members won't take to the streets of Lagos chanting slogans of change and distributing informative fliers to passers-by, rallying support in the advocacy for workers right. However, other communication channel would be deployed; to get the message to Government quarter.

The purpose, despite a change in procedure, won't be misplaced.

Another highlight is the celebration of the Year of St Joseph, declared by Pope Francis from December 2020 to December 2021.

May 1st is the commemoration of the Feast of St Joseph, the patron saint of workers.

In attendance would be The Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos; Dr Alfred Adewale Martins, other dignitries, members and supporters of the movement.

The May Day theme is "Uniting Workers for Social and Economic Advancement" and would kick off with the Holy Mass at St Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland Lagos State, and would culminate with a reception afterwards, at the venue.

COVID-19 protocols would be adhered to.
